Event on female imprisonment

On Thursday, 9 November, ICPR will launch the fourth edition of the World Female Imprisonment List, providing a comprehensive account of the numbers of women and girls in prison across the world. With female prisoner numbers rising at a much greater rate than the male equivalent since 2000, the event is an important opportunity to consider some of the key causes and consequences of this worrying trend.

Lessons from abroad for justice reform

Today sees the publication of two briefings, authored by Dr Jessica Jacobson and Helen Fair of the Institute for Criminal Policy Research, Birkbeck and published by the Prison Reform Trust. The briefings highlight learning from the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust (WCMT) Prison Reform Fellowships, which have a particular focus on prison reform across the world.

On 9 June 2017, ICPR Director Dr Jessica Jacobson gave a paper on 'Understanding and reducing the resort to custody: Evidence from 10 countries' at the European Conference of the Sentencing and Penal Decision-Making European Group, held in Edinburgh.

Plenary speakers at the conference included the Rt Hon Lady Dorrian and Professor Andrew Coyle.
